Dear Octavio,

It is a beautiful, sunny, May morning and I've decided to write to you. I hear that you are making good progress and adjusting well to your new environment. You are keeping your parents very occupied with feedings, changes, baths, and the best part, just watching the cute faces you make.

I also hear you gained a few ounces which is good news. Your cousins Jalil and Yasmin want to meet you so we have to really try to make that happen. I hope to have Papa Cesar drive me up to see you soon. I want to get a chance to see you often so that you become familiar with me.

Octavio, I noticed that you have found a natural comfort with your finger. Your Uncle Jon used to suck his thumb as a baby. He looked so cute doing that and your photo brought back those fond memories.

Well Little O, I wish you sweet dreams as well as your mommie and daddy. May God keep you all safe.

Week 1: Happy Cumplesemana!

Happy 1 week birthday O!!!

I can't believe it's been a week already. This time last week I had just taken a shower and we were moving into a postpartum room. Now you're in your bassinet in our bedroom sleeping. Crazy! At some point this morning you lost your umbilical cord. We haven't been able to find it but it's not there anymore. Maybe it ended up in your diaper? It's too bad because I wanted to keep it. Do you know that your Abuelita Mayela kept her children's umbilical cords in little jars under the sink for years? Isn't that sweet? :)

Well, let's see. Your days these days are mostly napping, nursing, burping, and diaper changes. We're going to try to do some tummie time later today and also give you a bath. Your Daddy's favorite thing that you do right now is when you burp. He's really good at burping you. I'm not that good because I feel bad hitting you on the back. My favorite thing that you do is when you smile when you have gas. You're so cute!

You're taking a nap right now so it's time for us to sleep. Love you sweetie!

Birth Week: Getting situated

We've been home for about 8 hours now and have changed about 5 diapers, nursed three times, burped many times, been peed on, and have changed O's outfit twice. hehe :) O is hilarious. We keep laughing at things he does. Daddy is rocking him to sleep right now:

We're home at last!! Yay!! The pediatrician came in this morning and said we were free to go. We have to go get some lab work done tomorrow and then O will have his first doctor's appointment at 2pm.

Daddy just put O to bed so we're going to go take a nap.

Birth Week: Grandparents

Hi everyone,

We're still in the hospital. Everything is fine but O's bilirubin levels are still a bit high. He's sitting under lights during the day to bring them down and looks like a little glow worm (so cute!).

O's grandparents came to visit him.
