Week 28: You're all mine!

As of right now Mommie is officially a stay at home mommie! YAY!
(Actually, I have to go into work on Monday and will still be working as a consultant, but still)

I know it won't be easy all the time and that I'm sure I'll miss my job (that I was really good at and felt was making a real difference in the lives of my students) from time to time but I'm so excited little O!

No more crying during drop offs at day care, no more sadness every time I think about you during the day, no more worrying about how strangers are taking care of you, no more wondering if you're okay and having a good day, no more waking you up in the morning to go to school, no more hoping you don't get sick so I don't have to miss work, no more pumping 3-5 times a day, no more only seeing you awake a few hours during the week, no more being stressed out about you not having enough milk, no more having nightmares that one of your teachers is trying to secretly breastfeed you and then trying to kidnap you (I haven't told you about that one, have I?), no more catching colds every day from little babies. No more! This is great!

Week 28: Sleep

Hi sweet pea :)

Today is Mommie's last day of work...yay! Today seemed so far away when I first put in my resignation letter in 6 weeks ago. It was so hard but I'm glad we made it. Yesterday my coworkers gave me a nice going away party yesterday with lots of yummie Indian food and a gift that you might enjoy, a membership to the Children's Museum in Connecticut.

Still no tooth for you. Your sleeping schedule is crazy at the moment. You slept almost all day at day care yesterday and then came home and slept until 8pm. You're in the mei tei right now and fell asleep when I played some Damien Rice for you so hopefully you'll sleep a bit.

I wanted to talk about how we sleep because I don't want to forget. We have a family bed and you sleep in between Daddy and I usually. Sometimes we're able to put you next to the wall so Daddy and I can sleep next to each other but that's rare.

I love that you sleep with us. I don't know what I'd do if you had to sleep away from me. I really need my sleep little O. I'm not like your Daddy who can sleep a few hours and be okay. I need lots and lots of sleep. When you wake up to nurse I barely wake up since you can latch on by yourself now. You don't even open your eyes most of time and just search around. It's so nice because usually you nurse a bit and then fall right asleep. I love it. It's great.

Lately you've been getting up while you're sleeping and you'll look around and then when you see one of us you fall back asleep. You also like to know that Daddy is around so you'll turn around and touch his face and then go back to nursing. It's so cute.

Anyway, back to sleep. We need to get you back to sleeping at night and being awake during the day. We'll work on that next week, hopefully after this teething business is over.

I love you!

-Mommie

Week 28: Oh, Northampton

Hi O :)

We're scheduled to move from Northampton in about a month and this morning I was reminded about something I will miss once we move.

From a Northampton Mommie email list I'm on:

Thu 11/29/07 8:23 AM
Re: Chicken Pox Party!

It's official! Two of our three kids woke up with spots this morning, and Z has a new runny nose (often the first symptom of chicken pox). We are happy to share germs with anyone interested in catching chicken pox. From what I know of this strain (a few cases back) it is a mild strain, no fevers reported in the past few cases, and my kids seem totally fine at the moment. The incubation is generally 10-21 days (for us it was 14 or 15), so if you do expose your kids, they should wake up spotty sometime around December 13th.

Anyway, let me know if you want to come over and play!

Still no tooth, by the way.

Week 28: Toothie

We can now see a tiny bit of your tooth but it hasn't come out yet. Poor baby!

Still a toothless grin!

You look good in red Mister O

You're still drooling a lot so you have to have your bib on

This is what your parents are looking like these days

Week 28: Happy Birthday Octorisa!

We started your blog a year ago today with a lovely entry about Mr. Snoogle. You were 16 weeks and 6 days old (in utero). At the time you were 4 1/2 inches long and 3 1/2 ounces, and the size of a small avocado. So little!

I just got word from the Children's Center that you're in a lot of pain because your tooth is coming out so they're going to give you some Tylenol. :( My poor fluffies! I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I have to take lots of pictures of you tonight...the last with a toothless grin.

Week 28: Tooth watch

Hi O :)

We're currently on tooth watch. You've been drooling like crazy lately and seemingly teething for the last two months so we think one of your teeth is about to pop out. I'm so scared about this because I think you're going to bite me...while nursing. Your Daddy & I made a bet. He thinks it'll be the one on your bottom right and I think it'll be the one on your bottom left. We'll see!

In other scary news, your Boppy slipcover has been recalled because of excessive lead paint. Scary! I feel bad because this is the pillow we use when you sleep alone in bed so you won't fall off and you like to put it in your mouth a lot. Poor O! Hopefully they'll send us another one soon but I'm kind of afraid to use their replacement.

Oh yes, and it's 5am and you're awake. Go to sleep little O! We have to be up for work/school soon. Love you!

Week 28: One more week to go...

Hi sweet pea :)

This is Mommie's last week of work. Yay! I'm so excited little O. As of Friday at 3:30pm I am free to hang out with you all the time. I'm technically still working from home until Wednesday but I won't have to drop you off at daycare and can work while you take your naps or play with your toys.

It was really difficult dropping you off at daycare today. We've been together since Tuesday night and then to leave you with someone else made me so sad. On top of that when I got there most of the babies were in the playroom and there were two babies in the infant room. Both of them were crying so the teacher couldn't hold them both at the same time so one of them sat in their crib just crying all by themselves. As I nursed you in the rocking chair in the infant room I cried and cried thinking about you being alone in your crib in the dark room crying by yourself. :(

I also had to come nurse you today because you wouldn't drink from your bottle and just kept chewing on the nipple.

Anyhoo, soon we won't have to worry about that anymore! We're so lucky little O to be able to spend the day together. Daddy has been amazing and I'm so happy that he is willing and able to support us and that Papa Cesar and Lela Carmen are so graciously letting us live with them. We're very lucky!

Speaking of supporting us, your Daddy has his first job interview tomorrow. Wish him lucky little O. It's at a large law firm in downtown Hartford. This weekend Daddy got a new suit and tie and he looks so cute in it. Daddy is interviewing to be a Legal Recruiter and would be in charge of recruiting first year, summer, and lateral attorneys for the firm. He's really excited about it so I know it'll go well.

In other Daddy news, he is going to write an article about the reasons to not circumcise boys. Your doula, Jen, asked Daddy to write about it because a lot of her clients ask about it and she wants to have something to give them. I'm so glad we didn't circumcise you little O. Seeing them draw your blood in the hospital when you had jaundice broke my heart so I can only imagine the sadness I'd feel if I knew you were in even more pain.

So yea that's about it. Your Titi Lucy took me makeup shopping on Saturday. It was so much fun. She's such an expert and knows about everything. She had me try on a bunch of things but my favorite was this really plumy purple lipstick that I'm going to wear to work tomorrow. I know everyone is going to say something but I need a change. Hope you recognize me!

Love you!

-Mommie

Week 27: Your first Thanksgiving

Hi O!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We spent Thanksgiving at Abuelito Jorgensen & Abuelita Mayela's house. It was a lot of fun and there were lots of people there. It was quite a task getting everything ready to go and getting out the house to start the trip to Boston! It seems like we need at least three hours prep time to leave the house lately.

The night before your Mommy and I made a pumpkin cake and I had to really try hard to not eat an apple pie we had bought to bring as well. I love me some apple pie! Anyhow, it turns out the cake was a huge hit at the party. I had never had anything pumpkin before and was hesitant to try the cake but once I did I started hoping other people wouldn't want some so I could have more!

Well then Titi Lucy goes around promoting the cake and next thing you know there's none left and everyone is raving about it. Even a couple days later people were asking if there was anymore cake left!

Your Mommy looked so beautiful and every day I think to myself, wow, smart, caring AND beautiful, I hit the jackpot! You're pretty lucky to have such a special Mommy.

Anyhow, we had a real nice time at my parent's house, and everyone went out of their way to make us comfortable. Titi Krysten let us stay in her room and you seemed pretty comfortable there. The day after Thanksgiving we had a nice dinner together with most of my immediate family as well as Tio Ray and Tio Raul both visiting their partners, my sisters. It was so nice to be around family I don't normally get to hang out with.

We even played Monopoly one night, until 3am! Your Daddy lost, and Titi Tatiana had her ten minutes of fame, but rest assured I'll get my revenge soon!

I'm so excited that your Mommy only has one week left of work and then can stay at home and take care of you. Nothing makes me feel as comfortable as knowing you are at home with your Mommy instead of daycare with random people I really don't know that well. I think your Mommy is ready for a break from work anyhow.
