Week 19: Sleepy time

Hi Mister O :)

I told your Daddy to go to sleep in the other room because you're wide awake and I know he's tired. I got to take a nap with you earlier today since Wednesdays are our half days. You're fighting going to sleep right now just like your Daddy does so I have you in the mei-tei and I'm singing to you.

I love this time of night. It's just the two of us and you look up at me with a sleepy grin and I give you a kiss on your forehead and then you suck on your thumb and eventually fall asleep.

You had music time at childcare today. Different musicians come in once a week to play music for all the children. Your teacher said you really liked it and then you went outside and they laid you down so you could stare at the trees which you love. You're so easy to please. I hope you're always like this.

You're rolling over a bunch now. If we put you in your play yard you'll roll over within seconds. You're also grabbing anything that comes close to you and you pull of our glasses. It's amazing seeing you learning so much about the world around you.

Daddy and I have been talking a lot about what we're going to be doing in the upcoming year. I want to finally go to grad school (I've been putting it off for years) but I'm still not sure of where I should go. I think my number one choice would be the London School of Economics & Political Science. Would you want to live in London for a year and half little O? It would be around the same time that you're learning to talk so maybe you'd have a cute little British accent? There's also the University for Peace in Costa Rica and the Maxwell School at Syracuse University which would be lovely. There are also a bunch of schools in Washington DC and New York City that interest me. I also don't know if I should go to grad school or law school. I love the law and loved my legal courses in college but law school is super expensive. If I went to grad school I could probably get some funding for a MA/PhD program. Your Daddy is so supportive and says that I should do what I really want no matter what. Nice Daddy, eh? We're really lucky little O. I hope you do whatever you're passionate about and I am going to work my hardest to support your endeavors.

You fell asleep so it's time for us to lay down. I love you sweetie. :)

Week 18: Lela Carmen!

My Loving Lil' O,

Hi Octavio! I'm now on my lunch break and had a chance to look at the blog and was so happy to see pictures of you. You are just are a bundle of joy! You clearly recognize your mommie and daddy and enjoy being with them. You are getting so big and strong, laughing a lot and making a bunch of sounds. I'm sure you will be talking and crawling soon. I hope to see you soon. I love you very much. Don't grow too fast!

Blessings,
Lela Carmen

Week 18: feeling yucky

So this week started off pretty bad. After ending last week looking forward to a relaxed weekend with your Mommy, I woke up Saturday feeling awful. My throat was hurting, I had a runny nose, and had a headache. Not a great way to start the "relaxing weekend" huh? Sunday wasn't much better, nor yesterday, so yesterday and today I stayed home. I didn't feel too bad about staying home Monday but today (two days) made me feel a bit worried since I know so much has happened and when I go to work tomorrow I'm going to be so far behind with work. Hopefully everything will be ok and they will understand at my job.

In other news, the benefit of being sick and not going to work is getting to wash all your new clothes that your Mommy bought you. There is some great stuff, and some not so great stuff (Yankees outfit). Right now you are sleeping on my chest. I always put you to sleep listening to hip hop music. I just gave you a bath and boy are you big! You barely fit the bathtub your Tio Toti bought you. You always seem to like baths, or at least don't mind them. Your Mommy is sleeping as well, she had a long day yesterday at her job, staying at work until 9pm for a dinner she helped coordinate. From what I could tell the dinner was a huge success, and I hope people recognize how much your Mommy did.

Well it's getting hard typing with one hand while holding you on my chest with the other, you probably weigh close to 20lbs now!

Bye.

Week 17: Flip please

So little O,

Apparently you didn't like your sleep schedule your Mommy and I did, so you've flipped it and gone back to the not sleeping at night form of the past. While I can't get mad at such a cute little baby, I do hope this weekend your Mommy and I can flip you back because while I'm at work I really feel it, not sleeping that is.

Anyhow, in other news you are so big, I know your Mommy and I have been saying this forever but now other people are chiming in, you are even starting to not fit clothes that your little buddy Sammy, that is four months older than you, was giving you, and Sammy's parents said it best when they said "pretty soon Octavio will be giving Sammy hand me downs." This is sad because Sammy's clothes are pretty nice.

Your Titi Krysten's birthday came and went and sadly without much fanfare, but as you get older I guess "celebrating birthdays" takes on a different feeling, although for future reference O, you can celebrate my birthdays until I die! Love you.

Week 17: Working with Daddy

Hi sweetie :)

You're sleeping on my chest right now...I love it!

Your Daddy and I got to work together today. We both manage the internship programs at our respective organizations so we went to a community involvement fair at UMass today to look for potential interns. Your Daddy looks so cute talking to people about media reform.

Daddy working it

Last night was crazy. You were nursing all night long and then you were up from 3am until 6:30am. Then you woke up again at 7am and wouldn't go back to sleep. Not surprisingly you slept all day at daycare. I hope you sleep tonight sweetie because Mommie is tired.

You still love taking baths (although it doesn't look like it in this picture)

You like touching our faces lately

Week 16: Memories...

O, we just got back from visiting my family in Brookline and I couldn't help but think back to some times when things seemed so daunting and I wasn't sure if I could handle what was to come, you! I remember coming to visit your Mommy and you from North Carolina and always wanting to stay a little longer, a day, an hour, a few minutes and then rushing off to the airport at the last second equally wanting to catch the flight as wanting to miss it.

I remember the first time I met your Lela Carmen, she put me on the spot from the get go sitting me down on her back porch table to talk to me. I wasn't that nervous but nonetheless it was stressful thinking about trying to impress the mother of someone I had fallen in love with.

I remember feeling you having hiccups in your Mommy's belly and then you kicking late at night when your Mommy was sleeping and I was awake talking to you through your Mommy's belly.

I remember being in North Carolina away from you and your Mommy and counting down every minute until I could see you again, and feeling like the days wouldn't end soon enough.

And who could forget the most stressful time in my life ever, the dreaded move from North Carolina to Massachusetts. The UHaul truck that I drove the whole distance with the help of your Mommy to keep me awake and that without a doubt put years on my life from the stress.

No matter what the memory I have about us, one thing I remember about how I felt during those moments was that I knew things would be ok at the end of the day, and they are.

I'll never forget catching you as you came out of your Mommy's belly and seeing you and thinking right away this was what I was put on this world for, to be your Daddy and your Mommy's partner!

Love,

Pa

Week 16: You're huge!

Hi little O :)

I just noticed that we started this blog when you were 16 weeks old in the womb and now you're 16 weeks old out of the womb. That went by quick!

On Friday you had your 4 month check up with your pediatrician. He said you looked great and then you peed on him (not nice, Mister O!). You're officially huge. You were 17 pounds, 3 ounces (90th percentile) and 25 1/2 inches (76th percentile). I can't believe how big you are sweetie. After your appointment we were supposed to go visit the Fernandez familia but when we got home we ended up taking a nap for a long time so we decided not to go that night.

You look so excited to be at the doctor

Silly O :)

You stole Daddy's glasses right from his very own face while he was changing you (Sneaky O!)

Daddy playing with you

On Saturday we got up and did a bunch of housework and then headed out to Brookline. First though your Daddy wanted to go to the car wash...bad idea. It was one of those automated car washes and when it went on you started bawling. It was so sad sweetie. You were not happy at all. The same thing had happened the night before. Your Daddy was joking around and said "Whhyyyyy?" and you got scared and started crying. So so sad...poor O!

Scared by the car wash

Your caterpillar rattle always makes you feel better

Luckily you quickly fell asleep once we left the car wash and we got to Brookline in no time. You got to spend time with your grandparents, Titi Lucy and Tio Ray, and Tio Toti.

In the meantime your Daddy and I went out for a date to Mommie's favorite restaurant in the whole wide world (yes, it's true)...Cheesecake Factory. We had such a nice time. I love going on dates with your Daddy. While we were gone you laughed for Titi Lucy...how cute, sweetie!

Avocado eggrolls...I love you!

My girl...Angelina!

Daddy trying to act like Christopher Walken

After eating we visited your Daddy's friend Steven who just had a baby. Her name is Sophia and she's only two weeks old! She was tiny...a little peanut! She was sleeping in her little bassinet and your Daddy and I just stared at her over and over again because she was so so cute. I can't believe you used to be that small...it's crazy! She almost made me want to have another baby...almost.

We headed back home and you were sleeping in the living room with Abuelita Mayela. Then we went to sleep. You slept really well but like clockwork you got up at around 4am and wanted to play so your Daddy took you downstairs and watched a movie with you until you fell asleep. Around 1pm we left and headed home and have been chilling ever since. I love you sweetie!
